I actually saw a woman wearing a sweater with a similar cabling pattern (obviously on a much larger scale) in the check-out line at the grocery store.
When I got back to the car, I quickly sketched the idea of it down on the back of the receipt.
Well, sketching out an idea and knitting it are quite different! It took about four or five attempts before I was happy.
Finally, I began working on the cuff. (This mitten is one of my "upside-down" mittens, so I end with the cuff.) I knitted about four different versions. As I needed mittens to sell in my shop, I just knitted a second mitten to match the first. So I have actually knitted this pattern five times. The other mittens all had different cuffs. So to everyone out there who has a pair of my mittens. You have a one-of-a-kind with no pattern available to replicate them...
